Club Profile

FC Santa Rosa was founded in 1992 as the Santa Rosa Soccer School, with the objective of providing an environment within which young people could learn football and social skills. The current name was adopted in 2000 to reflect the organization’s evolution from football school to full-fledged club. We believe every person has the responsibility to develop whatever athletic ability he/she may have, and should enjoy the right to healthy recreation. We also believe that sport must enhance the individual’s self-esteem, and his/her ability to contribute to his/her community – whether it is the team, the family, the school, the town or the country.

NICKNAME

FC Santa Rosa teams are known as the “Cannons” – after the gun that is traditionally discharged to mark the beginning of the Santa Rosa Festival. A plaque on the cannon reads, in part, “THE GUN WAS CAST AT THE ROYAL BRASS FOUNDRY, WOOLWICH, IN 1794, WAS SENT TO THE WEST INDIES IN 1795 AND ARRIVED IN TRINIDAD AROUND 1797. IT WAS RELOCATED TO CALVARY HILL, ARIMA, ON 11TH AUGUST, 1994.” Carib writer, Jacqueline Khan, says the cannon blast symbolizes the “voice of Chief Hyarima calling his people together.” A statue of the Carib chief stands outside of the Arima Velodrome, the true home of Arima football since the 1960s.

TEAMS

In 1998, the Club entered the youth competitions of our regional (Eastern) Football Association for the fist time, at the Under13 and 15 levels, winning both. In 1999, we fielded three teams – Under 13/15/17. Since that time the club has won many titles in various competitions. The club won the inaugural TTFF National Youth League Under 17 title in 2009, and the league’s Under 16 title in 2010.

INSURANCE
A player insurance scheme that provides basic accident and injury coverage was introduced in 1999. Members are not allowed to participate in training or matches without the required insurance.

PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT
There is a mandatory Code of Player Conduct for all members. The club expects the highest standard of personal conduct and performance from players, both on and off the pitch.

PROJECTS
The club operates several projects, including its Community Development project, which is intended to assist the development of youth in mainly rural areas; its Helping Hand project, which involves distribution of foodstuff  to the poor and needy at Christmas; and its Social Development Programme for our members, which was introduced in 2000. These Programmes include activities intended to develop the social, personal and academic skills of the student of the club’s youth Academy.
